Purpose is practical, not a privilege.
Do you think you need to wait until your life reaches a certain level of success or “put in your time” grinding away at a life that others expect you to live before you can discover and live your purpose?
Well, you don’t.
You can start living your purpose today if you choose to. And you don’t have to make any drastic changes to your life to do so.
Purpose is NOT a luxury or a privilege or some grandiose endeavor.
Purpose is not a goal. It is not an achievement like “Become a billionaire” or “Save the polar bears”. It is not a vision like “To create a world where children never go hungry.” or “To create a future that is sustainable for all people.”
Goals and visions are great. Have those. But don’t mistake them for your purpose.
So what is it? It’s quite simple actually.
Your purpose is to live authentically and in accordance with your highest values in every moment of every day.
And if you don’t know how to do that, then your purpose is to figure out how to do that.
And if you don't know what that means, then your purpose is to discover what that means.
And if you don’t know how to do THAT, then your purpose is to learn how to discover what that means.
Essentially, your purpose in any given moment is anything you do that enables you to and increases the frequency at which you act and make choices from your deepest truth and highest values.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s hard work (and you will fail a lot).
But when you do that, something interesting happens.
Your psychology, physiology and spirit start operating efficiently together to generate more life inside of you.
You will notice more energy, creativity, confidence, love and joy: Common human indicators of vitality.
And guess what?
Vital people are productive and effective.
Vital people are innovative and imaginative.
Vital people are resilient and resourceful.
Vital people are present and compassionate.
Vital people are attractive and influential.
Vital people are valuable and indispensable.
Vital people make the best partners, leaders, friends, colleagues, artists, teachers, mothers, fathers, healers, lovers, inventors, etc etc etc....
They don’t TRY to be those things. They just ARE because that is what a fully alive human being IS.
Do you understand now?
The purpose of life is TO BE ALIVE.
Your purpose is your access to vitality.
And vitality is your access to everything worth having in life.
